Committee Approves Jozwiak Bill to Help Hunters Track Wounded, Killed Deer
HARRISBURG – The state House Game and Fisheries Committee today approved a bill introduced by Rep. Barry Jozwiak (R-Berks) that would help hunters track hard-to-find white-tailed deer and black bears the hunters legally wounded or killed.

“This bill would help hunters locate deer or black bears they wounded or killed while hunting,” Jozwiak said. “This bill also is about preventing unnecessary suffering. If there is a deer or bear that has been mortally wounded by a hunter, this bill would make it easier for the hunter to end the animal’s suffering.”

Jozwiak’s bill would allow white-tail deer and bear hunters to use leashed, blood-tracking dogs to track animals they wounded or killed.

“If the hunter already has killed the deer or bear, we don’t want that life to be wasted by allowing the animal to rot in the elements,” Jozwiak said. “We want hunters to be able to recover the animals and harvest the meat and furs.”

Jozwiak’s bill now heads to the state House for consideration.
