Jozwiak Announces Grant Funding for Infrastructure Projects
9/18/2018
READING – Rep. Barry Jozwiak (R-Berks) announced today that five infrastructure improvement projects in the 5th District received a combined $625,000 in Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program grant funding.

“These various projects will improve services to residents while ensuring they have reliable infrastructure for years to come,” Jozwiak said. “I want to thank the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which awarded the grants, for also seeing the positive impacts these projects will have.”

Details of the projects are as follows:

• Alsace Township received a $125,00 grant to extend the sewer main so residents who live at the north end of Pricetown Road can connect to the system. These residents are currently serviced by failing on-lot septic systems.
• The Reading Area Water Authority received a $125,000 grant to replace an aging water filtration unit at the Maidencreek Filter Plant in Maidencreek Township.
• The Western Berks Water Authority received a $125,000 grant to update its water treatment facilities in Centre Township with a modern filtration system and associated equipment and building upgrades.
• Ruscombmanor Township received a $125,000 grant to extend its system along Walnuttown Road to 11 residences currently served by failing on-lot systems.
• Fleetwood received a $125,000 grant to replace 750 linear feet of deteriorated water main and to install a new fire hydrant along East Locust Street between South Franklin and South Walnut streets.

Grant funding is through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program, which offers grants for small water and sewer infrastructure projects and can be used to assist with the construction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply or sanitary sewer system.
