Jozwiak Pleased State Budget Approved by House Doesn’t Raise Taxes
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Barry Jozwiak (R-Berks) Tuesday in Harrisburg voted for the $34 billion state budget approved by the House that is balanced and requires no new or increased taxes.
“This budget funds the various functions of state government without further burdening our taxpayers,” Jozwiak said.
The spending plan calls for more than $400 million in additional support for students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. State-funded colleges and universities will benefit from a 2% increase in state funding.
“This budget supports our students so they can receive a quality education,” Jozwiak said. “The students who attend our schools and universities will benefit from this budget.”
The budget calls for a $10 million increase in investment for career and technical education.
“We are investing in programs to prepare Pennsylvanians so they can acquire family-sustaining jobs,” Jozwiak said.
The budget includes $9.7 million for three new classes of Pennsylvanian State Police cadets. It also manages to fund the Pennsylvania State Police without relying on the governor’s proposal to enact a new, per-resident fee on municipalities that do not have their own police force.
“Those cadet classes are going to produce the future police officers who will protect our Commonwealth,” Jozwiak said.
The spending plan also includes nearly $20 million in increased funding for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, which provides a variety of programs and services to support farmers across the Commonwealth.
“Farmers provide the food that makes everyday life possible, so we are showing our support for them in this budget,” Jozwiak said.
The state budget bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
