HARRISBURG – After the state House today fell short in its effort to override the governor’s veto of a bill that would have empowered local officials to determine policies and procedures for students to participate in and families to attend school sports and extracurricular activities, state Rep. Barry Jozwiak (R-Berks), who voted for the override, issued the following statement:
“I think many local students and their families are tired of being forced to live under mandates from an out-of-touch administration in Harrisburg. Local officials are much better equipped to make these decisions about health and safety measures at school sports and extracurricular activities. The governor’s arbitrary mandates are harming student athletes and their families. It’s possible for students to participate in athletics and for parents to attend and support them while maintaining health and safety standards. The failure to override the governor’s veto ensures our Commonwealth’s policies in this area will continue to be based on fear rather than common sense and science.”
