READING – Pennsylvania state Rep. Barry Jozwiak (R-Berks), who serves the 5th Legislative District covering part of Berks County, today announced he tested positive for COVID-19.
Jozwiak currently is at home, resting and self-quarantining in compliance with his doctor’s recommendations and the guidance provided by public health officials.
“I’m focused on following the advice of my doctor and taking the steps necessary to recover from this disease,” Jozwiak said. “I’m grateful for the health care workers on the front lines of this pandemic and the excellent medical treatment I have received.”
While Jozwiak is at home, his district office at the Reading Regional Airport remains open and available to help residents of the 5th District. The office is in the airport’s main terminal located at 2501 Bernville Road. Residents may visit or call the office at 610-378-4407 for assistance with state government-related programs and services.
“At least this happened at a time when I won’t be missing any important votes in the state Capitol,” Jozwiak said. Following the November election, the state House currently is between sessions, with legislators scheduled to return in January to be sworn in for a new, two-year session.
Jozwiak has represented the 5th District since it moved from northwestern Pennsylvania to Berks County following the last statewide legislative redistricting process. He was elected in November 2014 and took office in January 2015.
Prior to serving in the state Legislature, Jozwiak enjoyed a career in law enforcement. He served for 25 years with the Pennsylvania State Police, was the sheriff of Berks County for 12 years and is a former president of the Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Association.
