HARRISBURG – Rep. Barry J. Jozwiak (R-Berks) announced today that St. Luke's Hospital was awarded a $1 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant for the construction of a new medical office building in Leesport.
“I am happy to announce this RACP funding will play a crucial role in creating new jobs and providing vital health care services to our surrounding communities,” said Jozwiak. “This medical office building project will provide 43 new jobs and access to needed care for Berks County residents.”
This project involves construction of the St. Luke's Health Center in Leesport, a medical office building on the vacant lot at the intersection of the Pottsville Pike and Cherry Street. Medical services available at the site will include urgent care, lab services, X-ray imaging, mammography, occupational medicine, primary and preventative medicine, physical therapy, orthopedics, pediatrics and other specialty services.
The funding was awarded through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which supports the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act, have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues or other measures of economic activity.
