HARRISBURG – State grants totaling nearly $2 million were awarded to communities in the 5th Legislative District through the Local Share Account – Statewide (LSA) for key infrastructure projects, according to Rep. Barry Jozwiak (R-Berks).
“This funding will provide critical support for key projects throughout Berks County, while making important investments in our community’s future,” said Jozwiak. “I’d like to thank everyone involved for their support, and I’m glad to assist St. Joseph Medical Center and our local municipalities in securing these valuable resources.”
Grant funding will be allocated to the following projects:
• Berks County to receive $413,294 to purchase a new 3D mammography system for the St. Joseph Medical Center to provide better, more accurate screenings.
• Berks County to receive $91,200 for upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant located at the airport in Bern Township.
• Centre Township to receive $150,000 for the purchase of a tractor and mower for its public works.
• Lower Heidelberg Township to receive $680,000 to rehabilitate an existing bridge connecting two municipalities.
• Marion Township to receive $94,250 to purchase a trailer and emergency management equipment, and to purchase police protective tactical equipment and communications equipment for the police department.
• Perry Township to receive $136,036 for a new pavilion at the Perry Recreation Park.
• Shoemakersville Borough to receive $205,000 for borough hall improvements.
• Wernersville Borough to receive $500,000 to purchase self-contained breathing apparatus equipment for use in Wernersville Borough and surrounding municipalities.
• Womelsdorf Borough to receive $75,000 for the restoration of the Womelsdorf War Memorial.
The Local Share Account (LSA) program was established by the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 71 of 2004), which directs a portion of state gaming funds be used to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth.
